Is there any specific format to write a resignation letter?

There is NO standardized format for writing a resignation letter. However, the requirement is that your name and signature must be there, as well as the reason for your resignation, the effective date of your departure, and an attempt to thank them.

Where should I send the resignation letter?

We recommend that you print it and physically deliver it to your superior. If the circumstance is risky, email or snail letter can be used.

Be clear with the effective date

If you are drafting a resignation letter, make it clear when your final day will be. In terms of the employer, you should provide a 30-day notice and give transition help in connection with your successor for the position.

Should I comply with the 30-day notice and service?

In the Philippines, the standard is 30 days’ notice or at least one month’s notice, depending on the business policy and the contract you signed.

Similarly, if the employee has committed a major act that puts the group in risk, the notice period might be reduced.

What if the employee did comply with the 30-day notice?

The employer may hold the employee accountable for damages under the Labor Code. Employers may bring a damages lawsuit in normal court (MTC/RTC) rather than with the National Labor Relations Commissions (NLRC).

Say thank you to them

Whatever the reason for your resignation, we recommend that you express gratitude to your employer for all of the assistance and opportunities that have been offered.

Offer an assistance

It is a hallmark of a good employee when, despite your desire to retire, you give support and the courtesy of training your replacement. This is important to ensure that your work deliverables are correctly handed over to your replacement.

Takeaways

Nothing is guaranteed to work indefinitely. If you are no longer happy, the door is practically open for you to go, but you must do it graciously.

There are various reasons why you want to quit, but the most significant is that you learnt something from the organization and identified the areas in which you want to focus your efforts.
